This essay is Rhetorical Analysis of "Unnatural Distinction Established in Society" chapter from the larger work, Vindication of  Rights of Women, by Mary Wollstonecraft. In which she argues that society has imposed "unnatural  disntinction between the sexes. According her author she argues how this can have harmful effects om women. In my essay I have analyzed the rehtorical strategies used by Wollstonecraft to achieve her purpose. Rhetorical strategies such as: Ethos, Pathos, and Logos.

Womens' and their rights.

During the 18th century women were not given a chance to prove themselves, to show their talents. They have also been praise for their beauty, as a mother, wives, sister. In her essay, “of the pernicious effects which arise from the unnatural distinctions established in society”, Mary Wollstonecraft argues how the women were not treats equally like man, and the society just don’t do anything about this problem. In her essay se has: appeal to the ethics, use of figurative language in presenting of emotion, and judgmental reason.

Wollstonecraft herself was a governess, a teacher, and a writer. Her biggest work called, Vindication of the Right of Women, she had argued the (harmful) “pernicious” effects of the vanity and laziness, especially for women. In this particular essay she is seeing feminism in the political views.

What Mary Wollstonecraft is implying as her emotion is that men were never aware of this distinction done in society towards women. “Men are not aware of this cause misery they cause and vicious weakness they cherish by only inciting women to render themselves pleasing.” (657). Most of the time women gets praise for their beauty, and men thinks that women like the way men admire them, but that is not true. She don’t want to be seen as only a mother, for beauty, as a good wife or good citizen. She is scarfing her comfort of a woman’s life. In author’s opinion women is doing a sin by stopping herself from what she wants to do, showing or proving a world that she can be equally helpful like men, and can be mentally happy too.

Similarly, Wollstonecraft belongs to a family where her father was a heavy drinker (consume alcohol in high amount), and have left family on their own. What Wollstonecraft has achieved in her life was all on her own strength, and she is also an idol for a women’s in her time.

For all that she has also argued, how the system of British politics differentiate the rich and poor. She claims that, “The whole system of British politics, if system may courteously be called, consisting in multiplying dependents and contriving taxes which grind the poor to pamper rich” (659). Her frustration on treating the poor people so badly, so that rich can fulfill their needs. By imposing the high taxes is British political system showing a respect? For them it is not necessary to show a pity on the poor people, or should show respect in some ways. Fooling this poor uneducated people was easy game for them, they can even fool a guard dog by showing them a greed. The main point is education; if the education was at least available for women, then every 1 one 4 women will be able to understand what is the British system trying to do with them.

However, as I mentioned before women are more admired for their beauty. In addition to that women also needs to be guarded, and care of. Wollstonecraft claims that, “proud of their weakness, however, they must always be protected, guarded from care, and all the rough toils that dignify the mind.” (665). It’s a fact, that one human grows old their charm beauty, everything fades. After that no one is going to compliment women on how she looks so beautiful, her body image is seductive to her man. If you want to value her beauty don’t just stop complimenting her as the beauty fades. Always look at the person’s inner beauty not only how they looks, but also things such as: character, nature, behavior, social interaction. Women has wasted her life so that her family is nurtured very well, and be a good wife too. In spite of that she can be educated, and be equally respected, gain same fame as her husband has or more then man have. The author also describes that women were supposed to show themselves happy . Once they step out of they step of their house, and they can’t go alone anywhere. She (wife) has to be faithful to her husband. Even her natural rights were taken away for example: voting. It’s the 20th century who gave women the right to vote. To see a woman happy will be, by letting her achieve success on her own, independently accomplish her work.

In short women can be as talented as man are. If author Wollstonecraft can achieve such a good name, and can even be famous in her time as well as current time period, then she can be a role model for women. If women first respects herself, and never letting herself down in front of man, than the unnatural distinction by society will be ended by itself.
